Protect Your Home

With homeowners insurance, Oklahoma residents can have peace of mind and support in the event of a disaster or accident. Although there’s no doubt about the value of such policies, the reality is that no one wishes to be in a situation in which they have to make a claim in the first place. Fortunately, by being a responsible homeowner, it’s possible to lower the likelihood that you’ll need to make a claim.
One common claim type involves smoke or fire damage. By reducing the fire risk in your home, you’ll be far less likely to have to make such a claim. Ensure that your home has functioning smoke alarms with fresh batteries and keep fire fighting gear such as fire blankets and extinguishers handy. Keep your home free of clutter and your backyard free of highly flammable shrubbery.
Ensuring that your home is safe from burglars is another way to reduce your likelihood of claiming on your policy. Invest in high-quality deadbolts and make sure that your doors and windows have locking mechanisms on them. Consider purchasing motion-activated lights for nighttime use and always ensure that your neighbors know if you are going to be away overnight.
Finally, take care when it comes to personal safety. Keep dogs on leashes or safely outside when visitors are over and ensure that hazards such as pools are not accessible by children.
Being cautious and responsible can help reduce the possibility that you’ll need to claim on your  insurance policy – and that can keep the cost of protecting your home down.
